Sarah does freelance writing, research, and editorial services - especially history, geography, biography, culture, environment, and international health and development. This has involved community, organizational, and ecological histories for the National Park Service (Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore), Rotary International (polio eradication), and volunteer groups. Also educational assessment, textbook, and ancillary projects in social studies and language arts (K-12), science and math (K-6), for Riverside Publishing, ETS, Navta Associates, American Institutes for Research, Harcourt, Glencoe, CTB, Teachers’ Curriculum Institute, and others. She has worked on encyclopaedia and journal articles for Compton’s Encyclopaedia, Britannica Student Encyclopaedia, Encyclopaedia of Appalachia, Women in Higher Education, and others. She has provided historical consultation, research, and reference materials for the Balanchine Foundation, Michigan City Historical Society, Evanston Hospital, and volunteer groups. And done technical writing, computer procedures, and software product descriptions for Dolmetsch & Associates and The Software Resource Publications, Inc.

1981 - 1992, Sarah managed international programs: The Rotary Foundation of Rotary International. She prepared budgets, newsletters, surveys, and briefing materials for Rotary Foundation trustees. She supervised recruitment, registration, orientation, and scheduling of volunteers. She evaluated international development grant proposals and visited project sites. She designed and implemented new programs for scholarships and volunteer services.

1979 - 1981, Sarah researched and edited geographical and statistical material for the Encyclopaedia Britannica. She also taught history at the University of Chicago, University of Maryland (Asmara, Ethiopia, campus), and for an adult continuing education program in Chicago north suburbs.
